Elena Navarro

Elena’s breadth of experience in the arts and cultural sphere spams over twenty five years devoted to building bridges within the cultural space through collaborations. Her work harnesses and promotes a dialogue about photography as an ever evolving medium of artistic, cultural and human expression.

Her ample contributions to the field date back to 2001 when she created Canopia, a company based in Madrid, Spain and México City specialized in the creation and development of cultural programs across agent representation, digital cataloging, curated workshops and special publications. Canopia has represented Aperture Foundation for numerous years and has been a cultural agent for Magnum

Photos in Spain and Mexico. Prior Canopia, Elena worked for the ARCO International Contemporary Art Fair, Student Residencies in Madrid, and founded the magazine Arte y Parte.

As the founder and Artistic Director of the International Photography Festival FOTOMÉXICO, she conceived the initiative as a space for creativity, research and conversation about national and international photographic production in México.

Most recently, Navarro lead the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City, a public institution dedicated to the research, training, analysis and promotion of photography among diverse audiences through a interdisciplinary model of exhibitions, research, editorial and educational programs.

She currently sits as the Director of Espacio V, a foundation dedicated to enrich the presence of photography and visual arts on daily life in Latin America, supporting and driving connections to its exposure and professionalization.

We visited Elena at her home in the neighborhood of Coyoacán in Central México City.
